Brooklyn, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team suffered a series sweep to St. Joseph's College (Brkln) following a 62-61 loss on the road on Thursday evening. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 3-9 (1-3 Skyline) on the year, as the Bears improve their mark to 5-10 (4-3 Skyline).

The Golden Eagles and the Bears exchanged baskets for most of the first quarter before Kristen Candelaria drew a foul with 1:44 left in the frame and connected on both charity shots to lift the Bears to a 15-11 lead. Brooklyn would wrap the quarter up 17-13.

The Bears would build their largest lead of the evening (eight points) following a Samantha Simon three-pointer that lifted the hosts to a 25-17 advantage with 2:06 left in the half. Junior Jackie Zizzo helped the Golden Eagles close the gap, sinking two three pointers in the closing minutes as SJC closed out the half trailing the Bears 26-23.

Danielle Gehring made back-to-back baskets to put the Golden Eagles up by one 27-26 in the opening minutes of the second half, and Andrea Iavarone drew contact on her way to the basket, converting the three point play to give SJC the 30-27 lead at 8:07. The Bears quickly sparked a 5-0 run to tie the game 35-35 with 5:26 remaining, but Destiny Marino closed out the third with a layup to give SJC Brooklyn a 44-42 lead.

Down 47-42 early in the fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles built momentum with a 13-2 run, spearheaded by Iavarone, that gave them a 55-49 with 4:22 to play in regulation. The guests held a 61-57 advantage with three seconds remaining, but Brooklyn's Erica Eddy tallied a three pointer to close the gap to one. A late foul by the Golden Eagles awarded Victoria Porcasi two free throws, and the guard sunk the pair to claim the 62-61 win for SJC Brooklyn.

Zizzo, Smith, and Iavarone all finished with 14 points apiece, with the latter notching her seventh double-double of the season with 12 rebounds.
