New York, NY|  Sophomore Andrea Iavarone scored a career-best 28 points breaking, the program's single-season points record, as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team edged out Yeshiva University, 69-61, at the ARC Arena on Wednesday night. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 7-17 (4-11 Skyline) on the year as the Maccabees fall to 1-20 (0-15 Skyline).

Tied at 8 into the 4:55 mark in the first quarter, Claire Brady sparked an 8-3 run to give the Golden Eagles a 16-11 lead entering the second.

The Maccabees exploded offensively at the start of the second quarter as the hosts took a 22-20 lead with 7:08 left in the first half. The Golden Eagles held a 26-23 lead into the 1:14 mark, but Yeshiva would answer back with a 4-0 run to take a one-point lead (27-26) into the break.

Michelle Lupoli opened the second half with a made basket as SJC pulled away with a 10-0 run to take a 36-27 lead with 5:03 left in the third. Iavarone converted a layup in the final minute of the third to widen the gap by eight, taking a 38-30 to the final quarter.

In the 4:42 mark the Golden Eagles extended their lead by 13, thanks to a pair of free throws by Ashley Schumacher.  St. Joseph's never looked back after that, as they took control  of the game, edging out Yeshiva 69-61.

Iavarone finished with a game-high 28 points, her 431 points is the most by a Golden Eagle in a season since Kristen Mando in the 2005-06 season. Lupoli contributed 10 points and three rebounds.
