Men’s Soccer Blanked at USMMA

Kings Point, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team conceded two second half goals and was defeated 2-0 by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY on Saturday afternoon.

The win sends the Golden Eagles to 2-6-0 overall and 2-2-0 in Skyline Conference play as the Mariners improve to 6-3-0 (2-0-0 Skyline).

SJC outshot the hosts 4-1 in the first half but failed to breakthrough, resulting in a 0-0 deadlock at halftime.

Still scoreless in the 77th minute, SJC's Vincent Raccuglia was shown a red card and conceded a penalty that USMMA's Alex Madonna converted to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead.

Cole Blake's unassisted tally doubled the hosts' lead in the 81st minute and wrapped the afternoon's scoring.

USMMA recorded 13 second-half shots and outshot SJC 14-9 overall. St. Joseph's keeper Tyler Flaherty made four saves.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, October 1 when they visit St. Joseph's College (Brkln) for a Skyline Conference contest at 7:00 pm.
