Patchogue, NY| Despite goals from seniors Damian Duda and Rayneri Ruiz, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team was defeated 3-2 by Mount St. Mary College on Senior Day at Danzi Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The loss ensures the Golden Eagles end their 2019 season with a 2-12-2 overall record and a 2-7-2 Skyline Conference mark. SJC failes to qualify for the Skyline Conference playoffs for the first time since 2006.
Mount St. Mary improves tio 13-5-1 overall and 10-0-1 in Skyline play and earns a bye in the first round of the Skyline playoffs.
After a scoreless first half, MSMC opened the scoring in the 53rd minute when Joey Dolan scored an unassisted marker.
Duda brought the game back level in the 67th minute (1-1) when he finished off a Ruiz past on the right short side. Duda returned the favor one minute later when he played a through ball to Ruiz, who beat the MSMC keeper far side from the left to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.
Connor Doyle tied the game up at two in the 72nd minute and went on to score the winner in the 101st minute when he beat SJC keeper Tyler Flaherty 1-v-1.
Flaherty made five saves on eight shots in the contest and took the loss for St. Joseph's.
Overall, the Knights outshot the Golden Eagles 16-13 and generated six corners to SJC's one.
