
Men’s Volleyball Downed by Division I Sacred Heart
Fairfield, CT| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team suffered its first defeat of the 2019 season when it dropped a 3-0 decision at NCAA Division I Sacred Heart on Saturday afternoon.
The loss brings the Golden Eagles to an even 1-1 on the year as the Pioneers pick up their first win of the season and improve to 1-2.
A stifled SJC attack was led by junior Paul Curaro, who was credited with a team-best seven kills. The outside hitter also contributed five digs and a game-best two service aces.
Junior Will Flohr went for six kills and six digs, and senior Danny McNamara was credited with a team-high eight digs.
Sophomore Jason Siriban led the Golden Eagles with 17 assists.
Sacred Heart's Shawn Tischler put down 10 kills and hit 62.5% on the afternoon.
After dropping the first set 25-13, the Golden Eagles jumped out to an early 5-4 lead in the second but quickly fell behind 9-5 and later took a 25-15 loss.
The Pioneers would complete the three-set sweep with a similar 25-16 win the the third frame.
SJC, limited to just 20 kills and 19 assists, struggled offensively, hitting -.105 in the contest. Sacred Heart hit 35.4% and was credited with 36 digs.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, January 26 when they travel to Emerson College for a non-conference tri-match with the Lions and Nichols.
