Men's Volleyball Splits Non-Conference Tri-Match

New York, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball knocked off #13 Arcadia University, 3-0, before dropping a 3-1 decision to New York University in a non-conference tri-match in Manhattan on Saturday afternoon. The split brings the Golden Eagles to 17-5 overall on the year.

SJC 3, Arcadia 0

The Golden Eagles took down a ranked opponent for the third time this season when it swept Arcadia with 25-20, 25-14 and 25-23 set victories. SJC fought off late-set advances in the third to secure the victory.

An SJC offense that hit .247 in the contest was powered by junior Matthew Amberge, who hit .476 individually and put down a game-high 12 kills.

Junior Paul Curaro went for eight kills and eight digs, and senior Tyler Jones dished out 28 assists. Junior Danny McNamara's 15 digs were a game-high.

NYU 3, SJC 1

Down 2-0 headed to the third set, SJC picked up a 25-19 win to force a fourth set. There, the Golden Eagles failed to establish a lead and eventually fell 25-16.

Amberge continued his strong play and put down a game-high 17 kills. The right-side hitter was also credited with six digs and one ace.

Both Curaro and junior Will Flohr contributed eight kills and eight digs apiece, and Jones picked up a game-best 36 assists.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, March 31 when they face Yeshiva University and SUNY Purchase in a Skyline Conference tri-match on the campus of Yeshiva at 10:00 am.
