Softball Splits in Myrtle Beach on Monday

Myrtle Beach, SC| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team split with a 9-7 win over Lancaster Bible and a 7-2 defeat to Lycoming in their final day at then Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC on Monday. With the day's results, SJC moves to 2-3 overall on the season. 

SJC 9, Lancaster Bible 7

After falling behind 7-2 in the top of the fourth, SJC brought two runs back in the bottom half of the inning (7-4). Julia Ruocchio (1-for-1) scored when Olivia Verderosa (0-for-3) grounded out to short, and Emily Bazarewski (0-for-3) scored Victoria Iavarone (2-for-3) with a fly-out. 

Bazarewski notched her second RBI of the game in the sixth when she grounded out the second and scored Ruocchio, and Jenna DeFina (1-for-4) cut the Lancaster Bible lead to one run (7-6) with an RBI single.

Emily Fenezia's (2-for-4) RBI single shortly after knotted up the score at seven, and Lindsay Ness' (3-for-4) two-RBI single to second scored both Fenezia and DeFina, putting the Golden Eagles ahead 9-7 in the bottom of the seventh.

Patricia McGloin tossed 3.2 innings and allowed seven runs. The senior made way for Ruocchio, who struck out two and allowed two hits in 3.1 innings for the win.

Lycoming 7, SJC 2

Lycoming went ahead 3-0 in the second inning and doubled their output in the top of the third to go ahead 6-0.

Ness (2-for-2) brought one back for the Golden Eagles (6-1) in the bottom of the third when she scored via an error by the Lycoming right fielder.

Another run for Lycoming came in the top of the fifth (7-1) before DeFina (2-for-3) wrapped the evening's scoring (7-2) when she advanced home on a throw in the bottom of the fifth.

Alexa Tenety (0-2) tossed 2.1 innings and allowed no earned runs but took the loss for SJC. Olivia Verderosa allowed one earned run and struck out two in 4.2 innings of relief work.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, March 26, when they host William Paterson for a non-conference doubleheader at 11:00 am.
