Softball Topped by Manhattanville in Skyline Doubleheader

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team dropped both games of a Skyline Conference doubleheader, 7-2 and 8-2, at SJC Softball Stadium on Monday afternoon.

The losses send the Golden Eagles to 5-8 overall and 2-2 in Skyline play as the Valiants improve to 9-11 and 5-1. 

Game 1: M'Ville 7, SJC 2
Julia Ruocchio (1-for-2) put SJC ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first when she scored Emily Fenezia (0-for-2) with an RBI single up the middle.

Riley Lim-Ellis (1-for-1) doubled the hosts' lead in the bottom of the third (2-0) with her own RBI single up the middle, but after conceding a run in the top of the fourth, SJC allowed four runs in the fifth and fell behind 5-2.

Manhattanville tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh before securing a 7-2 victory.

Olivia Verderosa started on the mound for SJC and struck out three batters while allowing two earned runs in 4.0 innings of action.

Alexa Tenety (L, 0-3) conceded three earned runs in 2.2 of relief work and took the loss.

Game 2: M'Ville 8, SJC 2
Manhattanville posted two runs in the first and five in the third to go up 7-0, but SJC brought one back in the bottom of the third through Lindsay Ness' (0-for-3) fielder's choice that scored Lauren Crawford (1-for-4). 

Samantha Dimezza (1-for-3) singled to right in the bottom of the fourth, scoring Emily Bazarewski (1-for-3) to cut the deficit to five runs (7-2).

Another run for the Valiants in the fifth wrapped the afternoon's scoring (8-2).

Patricia McGloin (L, 2-2) fanned one batter and allowed seven runs in 2.2 innings of work. Verderosa struck out three and allowed one run in 4.1 innings.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, April 6, for a non-contest doubleheader against Monroe at 4:00 pm at SJC Softball Stadium.
