Softball Out in the First Round of the Skyline Playoffs

Patchgue, NY| The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team was eliminated from the 2022 Skyline Conference Championship tournament following a 6-4 loss to St. Joseph's University (Brkln) on Tuesday afternoon. 

The Golden Eagles finish their season with a 16-13 overall record. The Bears will travel to Farmingdale to play the top-ranked Rams in the opening game of the championship round. 

The Bears struck first in the second inning after Bella Gomez (2-for-4), Alexis Buchanan (1-for-3) and Ashleigh Hartwig (2-for-4) provided RBIs to take an early 3-0 lead. SJLI answered back in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own provided by a Jenna Kreiling (2-for-3) RBI single.

Brooklyn went back ahead three runs in the fourth inning when Buchanan hit a solo homer over the left-field fence. 

The Golden Eagles chipped away at the lead when Riley Lim-Ellis (1-for-3) hit a single to score Linday Ness (2-for-4) in the sixth. But the Bears countered with two additional runs via an Autumn Poppett (2-for-4) RBI single and Nicole Trani (1-for-3) scoring on an error to take a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh.

SJLI did not go down easily and tried to stage a seventh-inning rallys Kreiling hit an RBI double that scored Victoria Iavarone (0-for-2) to trim the deficit to 6-3 and later in the inning, Jenna DeFina hit an RBI single that scored Kreiling to put the Golden Eagles within two runs. However, the home team could not complete the comeback effort and lost 6-4. 

Senior pitcher Patricia McGloin (L, 6-6) went four innings for SJLI. Alexa Tenety threw three innings of relief with one earned run against and one strikeout.
