Softball Splits with SJBK on Saturday

Brookville, NY| The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team split, 6-4 and 8-12, with St. Joseph's University (Brkln) in a Skyline Conference doubleheader at Long Island University on Saturday afternoon.

The split sends the Golden Eagles to 14-13 overall on the year and 9-7 in conference play as the Bears move to 21-12 and 8-8. 

Game 1: SJLI 6, SJBK 4
Tied at one in the third inning, Riley Lim-Ellis (0-for-4) edged SJLI ahead (2-1) when she reached on a fielder's choice and scored Jenna DeFina (1-for-4).

Julia Ruocchio (2-for-2) extended the lead to three runs (4-1) with the next at bat when her triple to right scored Lauren Crawford (2-for-4) and Lim-Ellis.  

Kate Kiernnan's (2-for-3) two-RBI double down the left field line made it a 6-1 advantage for the guests in the sixth. The Bears posted a run in the bottom of the sith and two more in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles held on for a 6-4 victory.

Patricia McGloin (W, 6-4) fanned two batters and picked up a complete-game victory for SJLI.

Game 2: SJBK 12, SJLI 8
Trailing 4-2 in the second, DeFina (2-for-3) cut the lead to one run (4-3) with a fly out to left field that scored Jenna Kreiling (1-for-3). Kiernan (1-for-4) tied the game at four in the third with an RBI single up the middle.

The Bears went for three runs in the third, but in the fourth the Golden Eagles brought two runs back and in the sixth Lim-Ellis (3-for-4) put the guests ahead with an RBI single to short (8-7).

SJBK rallied for four runs in the sixth en route to a 12-8 win. 

Olivia Verderosa started on the mound for SJLI but McGloin, who entered in the third inning, took the loss. 

The Golden Eagles return to action tomorrow, May 1, when they host Yeshiva University for a Skyline Conference doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm.
