Softball Sweeps Yeshiva in Regular Season Finale

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team wrapped its 2022 regular season with a sweep of Yeshiva University on Sunday afternoon.

The wins ensure the Golden Eagles enter the playoffs as the fourth seed with a 11-7 conference mark (16-13 overall). The Maccabees wrap the season with a 0-25 (0-18) record. 

Game 1: SJLI 17, YU 2 (5 innings)
St. Joseph's went for 10 runs in the first inning, four in the second, and three in the third en route to a 17-2 victory. 

Jenna DeFina hit 4-for-4, scored twice and recorded a stolen base. Victoria Iavarone was 2-for-2 with a game-best three RBIs and two runs. 

Lauren Crawford (1-for-3), Lindsay Ness (2-for-3), Riley Lim-Ellis (3-for-3), and Michaela Andriola (1-for-1) all recorded two RBIs in the contest. 

Olivia Verderosa (W, 7-3), struck out five batters and allowed no earned runs in 3.0 innings.Kate Kiernan fanned four batters in 2.0 innings of relief.

Game 2: SJLI 24, YU 0 (5 innings)
After a nine-run first inning, SJLI went for six runs in the second, three in the third, and six more in the fourth inning. 

Ness went 5-for-5 with a game-high four RBIs and one run. Cailyn Rodriguez was 5-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs.

Lim-Ellis (3-for-3), and Julia Ruocchio (3-for-5) had two RBIs each, and Elena Serio was 3-for-4 with four runs.

Ruocchio (W, 2-2) struck out five batters and tossed a perfect game. 

The Golden Eagles will host a Skyline Conference first round match on Tuesday. Time and opponent to be determined.
