Stockton Edges SJC Women's Soccer 2-0

Galloway, NJ| The St. Joseph's college (L.I.) women's soccer team shut out Stockton University in the second half but couldn't overcome a first half deficit in a 2-0 setback in Galloway, NJ on Thursday night. The Golden Eagles are now 1-3-1 (1-0 Skyline) on the season as Stockton improves to 2-1 on the year.

The Ospreys notched both of their goals in a span of 10 minutes in the first half. Abigayle Musto put Stockton on the board when she chipped the ball into the net after receiving a cross from Samantha Rodrigues. Lindsey Thomas added to the lead in the 18th minute when she scored off a turnover and shot it short-side of the goal.

The Golden Eagles tried to get their offense going in the 35th minute when senior Joann Murino saw an opportunity to score but missed just wide of the goal. SJC continued to control the game for the remainder of the half, but after the inital 45 minutes of action the Golden Eagles trailed 2-0.

St. Joseph's College continued to pressure the Stockton defense as they controlled the majority of possession in the second half. Senior Megan Leun delivered a shot in the 47th minute that landed into the hands of the Stockton keeper Nicole Pallante, but the Golden Eagles' best scoring chance came on a breakaway when junior Erin Ward's shot, which was stopped by a diving Pallante, led to back-to-back corners.

The Golden Eagles continued to push for a late goal but Stockton held them off and claimed the 2-0 win.

Senior goalkeeper Katie McGarrell made five saves on the night, including four in the second half. The Golden Eagles successfully defended against six corners.

St. Joseph's College will make its home debut on Saturday Sept. 12 when it hosts conference rival Sarah Lawrence at 4:00 PM.
