Women's Soccer Rout Sarah Lawrence 7-0 in Home Opener

Patchogue, NY|The St. Joseph's College (L.I) defeated the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons, 7-0, in a Skyline Conference match-up this Saturday afternoon at Danzi Stadium. The Golden Eagles improve to 2-3-1 (2-0 Skyline) on the season as Sarah Lawrence slide to 2-1 (0-1 Skyline)

St. Joseph's got off to a strong start early on in the first half when Senior Jessica Cordano delivered a ball to senior Chelsea Bellini who beat the keeper one-on-one to score the opening goal of the half. The Golden Eagles recorded eight shots in a ten-minute time-span before striking again in the 15th minute. Cordano rifled it upper 90 from 30 yards away.

Cordano scored her second goal of the season just minutes later as she dodged past several defenders to score the third goal of the game. Senior Jaclyn Hughes added another goal in the half as she headed the ball into the net from a corner by freshman Emily Fontinha, Golden Eagles would take the commanding 4-0 lead.  SJC added another goal in the closing minutes of the half, Erin Ward headed the corner from Fontinha to extend the lead 5-0.

The Golden Eagles continued to carry out possession for the remainder of the game, as Josseline Sorto scored in the 58th minute of action.  Cordano completed the scoring for SJC as she completed the hat-trick at the 76 minute mark to complete the 7-0 rout.

The Golden Eagles had the advantage in corners with 16 and shots with 25 in their victory.

St. Joseph's College will continue conference play as they take on Brooklyn College on Monday September 14 at Danzi Stadium. Kick-off is set for 7:00 PM.
