Women's Soccer Blanks Maritime 5-0

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's soccer team scored five first-half goals to defeat Maritime College 5-0 on Saturday Afternoon at Danzi Stadium. The Golden Eagles are now 4-5-1 on the year and 3-2 in the Skyline Conference while the Privateers sit at 4-6-0 and slide to a 1-2 in conference play.

The rally started early in the first half for the Golden Eagles, when Joann Murino scored her second goal of the season at the five minute mark when she received a cross at the penalty spot from Claire Brady to take the 1-0 lead. Brady then quickly added to the lead when she buried a shot in the right corner to double the score 2-0.

The Golden Eagles continued to pressure the Privateer defense and their possession led to a corner in the 22nd minute. Brady took the corner for the Golden Eagles and found Kristin Carroll in the box, who would flicked the ball towards goal where Chelsea Bellini was able to chip in the third goal of the contest in the 23rd minute.

St. Joseph's continued to dominate the game and created an opportunity for Shannon Kennedy to score her first goal as Golden Eagle when she recovered the ball in the 36th minute and chiped it past the keeper. Kennedy continued the rally, burying a cross from Kathryn Condron in the closing minutes of the first half to take a commanding 5-0 lead.

SJC continued to maintain possession for  majority of the second half until Katie McGarrell made her first save in the 69th minute when Maritime almost broke the clean sheet when Krista Deleva fired a shot that struck the crossbar. McGarrell, and the Golden Eagle defense, would keep Maritime to four shots in the half en route to their fourth shutout of the season.

The Golden Eagles will remain home as they take on Montclair St at Danzi Stadium on Wednesday October 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM
