Staten Island Tops St. Joseph's 2-1

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 defeat to the College of Staten Island in a non-conference contest on Wednesday evening at the Danzi Stadium. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 5-8-1 on the season, while the Dolphins improve to 10-2-0.

Despite allowing CSI to control possession in the first half, St. Joseph's outshot the Dolphins 10-6. Senior Jessica Cordano had an opportunity to put the Golden Eagles in the lead in the 34th minute, but fired her attempt from just outside the box over the goal. St. Joseph's would eventually fall behind in the 41st minute, when Samantha Wysokowski converted a penalty to give the guests a 1-0 lead.

With a tweaked lineup, the Golden Eagles set the pace early in the second frame, recording five of the half's first six shots. The inevitable equalizer would come in the 57th minute, when senior Megan Leun played a through ball to a cutting Cordano, who beat a defender before slotting home her fourth goal of the season.

Less than one minute later, the Dolphins would regain the lead after Danielle Smith evaded two defenders and deposited a low shot into the back of the net. St. Joseph's brief advantage lasted only 40 seconds.

Down 2-1, the Golden Eagles would continue to press, recording the five shots under 10 minutes but could not find the back of the net.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Monday, October 19, when they host St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in a Skyline Conference showdown at Danzi Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM. Live stats will be available here.
