Women's Soccer Blanks Purchase 5-0

Purchase, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's soccer team scored three first-half goals and went on to defeat Skyline Conference rival Purchase College 5-0 on Saturday Afternoon.  The Golden Eagles move to a 6-8-1 record and is 5-3-0 in conference play, as the Panthers slide to 5-11-1 (4-4-1 Skyline).

The Golden Eagles got off to a strong offensive start recording two shots in the first five minutes of action. In the 7th minute Chelsea Bellini scored her seventh goal of the season as she retrieved a long ball and shot it past the keeper for the first goal of the game. SJC padded its lead  after being awarded a free kick in the 30th minute. Joann Murino took the kick from just outside the 18 yard marker and curled it over the keeper's head to increase put the Golden Eagles up 2-0.

In the 40th minute Bellini took control of the ball and dribbled it down the field before netting the Golden Eagles third goal of the game. St. Joseph's controlled possession for the remainder of the half and recorded four shots before it concluded the half with a 3-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles pressured the Panther defense early in the second half as they recorded four shots in a 10 minute span. Bellini recorded the hat-trick in the 60th minute as she received a pass from Jessica Cordano to take the 4-0 lead.

SJC added to its goal total in the 64th minute when Claire Brady found Belllini who shot it on the left side to increase the lead 5-0. The Golden Eagles continued to create set pieces throughout the half but could only record two shots on goal to run away with the 5-0 lead. 

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, October 27 when they welcome SUNY Old Westbury to the Danzi Center for senior day. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM, but be sure to join us beforehand as we celebrate the SJC careers of our seniors.
