Women's Volleyball Falls Twice on the Road

The St. Joseph's University-New York (L.I.) women's volleyball team dropped a couple of non-conference matches to Eastern Nazarene College 3-0 and Emmanuel College 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Top Performers

• Junior Jackie Wolf led the Golden Eagles with 11 kills, 10 digs, and three service aces

• Senior Madison Gremli added eight kills and nine digs

• Setters Katie D'Angelo and Karen Barrera Carreno dished 14 and eight assists, respectively 

• Libero April Sexton picked up eight digs 

How it happened

• The Lions jumped to an 11-5 lead, but the Golden Eagles chipped away to get within two, 16-14. ENC regained momentum and went on to take set one 25-20

• Eastern Nazarene made quick work of the Golden Eagles in the second set with a 25-12 win 

• A closely played third set saw the teams tied at 19, but the hosts claimed six of the final seven points for a 25-20 win to complete the sweep

Top Performers

• Gremli finished with a match-high 16 kills and .265 hitting percentage

• Wolf pitched in with seven kills and a team-best eight digs

• Setter Barrera Carreno tossed a match-high 30 assists while recording four digs and two aces

How it happened

• With the teams tied at seven in the opening frame, the Saints went on an 11-3 run, 18-10, before coming away with the 25-14

• The Golden Eagles returned the favor and evened the match with a 25-14 win of their own

• A back-and-forth battle ensued in set three, but with the score knotted at 23, the Saints took the final two points to edge the Golden Eagles 25-23

• Emmanuel led wire-to-wire in set four and cruised to a 25-12 win to claim the match 3-1
