Bonilla Hits Walk-Off as Baseball Sweeps St. Lawrence

Patchogue, NY| Anthony Bonilla hit a walk-off single in the backend of the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team doubleheader sweep against the St. Lawrence Saints on Saturday afternoon at Gregg Alfano field. The Golden Eagles improve to 7-2 (2-0 Skyline) with the 8-5 and 4-3 victory over the 0-2 Saints.

Game 1

St. Lawrence broke through the run column with a solo home run from Devin Robson in the top of the second inning.

After a scoreless two frames, Robson would deliver another three RBI's to clear the bases giving the Saints a 4-0 edge over the hosts.

With Ryan Walsh at second, in the bottom half of the fifth, Bonilla singled to left field to drive in SJC's first run of the contest. 

In the bottom of the six, Mike Griffo singled to left field to load the bases. Bob Keating would walk in his first plate appearance to give the Golden Eagles their first lead of the day.  James Nakashian singled to right field to plate two runners as the hosts took the 5-4 advantage.

After a called balk on the Saints to drive in Walsh, Bonilla continued to handle the hot bat in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single to right field. Joe Lynn would then beat out an infield hit to drive the eight run for SJC.

The Saints put up a valiant effort in the final inning, but Catanzaro would seal the 8-5 victory for the Golden Eagles.

Ryan Aloise put in eight innings of work, striking out eight batters, and giving up one earned run.

Game 2

The Golden Eagles picked its offense right back up in the first inning, as Girardi hit a fly ball to the center fielder to score Nakashian for the 1-0 lead.

After a pair of scoreless innings, Keating would hit a two-run blast over the right field fence to take a 3-0 lead over the Saints.

St. Lawrence would close its gap to two, 3-1, following an RBI single by Erick Larsen in the top of the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, the Saints hit back-to-back doubles to bring the game within one, as SJC was forced to bring in Nick Clemente with the tying run on second and no outs. Following an error a balk would bring in the tying run to send the game into the bottom half of the seventh.

In the seventh Sean Balsam singled up the middle to lead off the inning, pinch runner Tyler Costa would steal second. Griffo executed a sacrifice bunt to put Costa on third with one out. Bonilla came up to bat to win the game, 4-3, on a walk-off single.

The Golden Eagles will play their final game before heading down to the Dominican Republic on March 15 at Lehman College. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM
