Outsen Earns National Pitcher of the Week Honors

Written by Andrew Capitelli (SJC-LI Sports Information)

Patchogue, NY| Junior Joshua Outsen added to his weekly accolades on Thursday afternoon after he was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers (NCBWA) Division III Pitcher of the Week. The honor is handed out on the national level and Outsen becomes the first Golden Eagle in program history to receive such recognition.

Outsen's no-hit performance vs. Yeshiva University on Friday, March 11 also earned him a D3baseball.com Team of the Week nod on Tuesday and Skyline Pitcher of the Week accolades on Monday.

In Outsen's second-career no-hitter, the D3baseball.com All-NY Region Third-Team selection in 2015 struck out nine batters and walked two others in seven innings of work. The Lindenhurst, NY native has made two starts in three appearances this season and boats a 2.63 ERA. In 13.2 innings he's struck out 15 batters and allowed seven hits, and his .159 opposing batting average is good for fourth in the conference.

Joining Outsen on the NCBWA weekly shortlist is Lancaster Bible's Justin Taylor and Penn State-Behrend's Brian Bohman, who shared Hitter of the Week honors. The former hit .556 last week and the latter .566.
