Baseball Opens Up Trip to Dominican Republic With 8-5 Win Over Nationals

Santo Domingo, Dominica Republic-  The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) opened up its five-game road trip in the Dominican Republic  with an 8-5 victory over the Dominican Summer League (DSL) Washington Nationals on Friday morning

The Golden Eagles took a quick lead in the second inning and the visitors saw two runs come across the plate on a two-run error.

In the fourth, the Golden Eagles a run on an RBI single by Anthony Bonilla that scored Dennis McAllister. James Nakashian earned an RBI taking a walk with the bases loaded.

After pushing across three runs in the bottom of the fourth, with a groundout and a two-run single,  the Washington Nationals faced just a 4-3 deficit.

In the fifth, the Golden Eagles scored on a wild pitch, plating Matt Burnett and then followed it up with two more run in the seventh to take a 7-3 lead.

One run in the bottom of the seventh helped the Washington Nationals close their deficit to 7-4.

After an RBI triple by the Nationals in the bottom of the ninth, Austin Turner would seal the deal, closing out the 8-5 victory for the Golden Eagles

Nicholas Mannarino got the win in relief for the Golden Eagle, tossing three innings and allowing three runs.

The Golden Eagles will now take on the DSL Pittsburgh Pirates tomorrow.
