Women's Lacrosse Secures First Victory Against Ramapo, 14-8

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's lacrosse team picked up their first season victory with a 14-8 win over Ramapo on Saturday afternoon. 

Top performers:
  • Senior Melissa Newman recorded a game-high four goals and tied a game-high three assists while contributing one ground ball and one caused turnover 

  • Senior Jamie Trowbridge added three goals and tied a game-high three assists, to go along with three ground balls, four draw controls and five caused turnovers

  • Senior Emma Lange provided two goals, four ground balls, two draw controls, and three caused turnovers

  • Junior Emily O'Mara totaled two goals, five ground balls one draw control and two caused turnovers

  • Goalkeeper Maggie Harding secured her first win of the season and picked up 12 saves in the process

  • Caitlyn Featherstone and Kelly Griffin paced the Roadrunners with three goals each 

How it happened:
  • The game opened with Ramapo pulling ahead with a two-goal advantage, prior to SJLI responding with a 4-1 scoring run, giving St. Joseph's the 4-3 lead at the end of the first

  • Kayla Sodano opened up the scoring in the second quarter before goals from Griffin and Featherstone tied it up at 5 apiece 

  • Both teams would enter the half tied at six with O'Mara and Kaylie Gresek trading goals right before the half 

  • The Golden Egles would take control in the third quarter scoring Ramapo 4-1 in the quarter with Newman netting the first two goals 

  • SJLI kept the Roadrunners at a distance for the remainder of the game with St. Joseph's again out-scoring the opponent 4-1 securing the win

Notes:
  • St. Joseph's collected 28 ground balls with Ramapo collecting just 11 

  • The Roadrunners held a 17-9 draw control advantage over SJLI

  • The Golden Eagles had 38 shots compared to Ramapo's 28 shot

  • Both teams recorded 12 saves apiece 

  • The Roadrunners went 12-19 on clears while SJLI was 21-28 on clears 

Next up, the Golden Eagles go out on the road as they travel to Kean University for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, March 15 at 4:00 pm.
