Women's Lacrosse Falters to USMMA, 18-10 on Wednesday

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) faltered to the United States Merchant Marine Academy 18-10, on Wednesday evening.

Top performers:
  • Senior Jamie Trowbridge led the Golden Eagles with a team-high three goals and two assists, while also contributing six draw controls, two ground balls and one caused turnover

  • Junior Emily O'Mara provided St. Joseph's with two goals, one assist, one ground ball, and three draw controls 

  • Senior Melissa Newman added two goals, one assist, one ground ball and one caused turnover

  • Senior Emma Lange totaled two goals and three ground balls, to go along with four draw controls and collecting three ground balls 

  • Lauren Jablonowski of USMMA had a game-high four goals and three assists, and also tallied one groundball 

  • Jaqui Sheedy and Samantha Atwood had three goals for the Mariners, with Sheedy adding two assists and a game-high 11 draw controls 

How it happened:
  • The first quarter saw the Mariner's offense in a flow early as they would open the game by scoring the first four goals, with two coming from Sheedy

  • St. Joseph's would find the back of the net with a goal from Trowbridge cutting the lead to just three as USMMA would end the first quarter with a 6-2 advantage

  • O'Mara opened up the second quarter with a goal for SJLI but the United States Merchant Marine Academy would respond by going on a 4-0 run

  • The second half began with the USMMA holding a 13-5 lead but Golden Eagles would outscore the opposition 2-1 in the quarter 

  • Heading into the fourth St. Joseph's was behind 14-7 as the Mainers built on their lead in the fourth quarter scoring four goals to St. Joseph's three in the final frame securing the victory

Notes:
  • The Golden Eagles scooped up a total of 17 ground balls as USMMA collected 18

  • SJLI was a steady 16-19 on clears while the Mariners were 19-22 on clears

  • St. Joseph's held a slight advantage in draw controls, 16-15

  • Merchant Marine Academy had 37 shots with SJLI having a total of 22
