Women's Lacrosse Drops Third Conference Loss of Season

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's lacrosse team drops its third Skyline Conference loss of the season, falling to Manhattanville, 15-11.

Top performers:
  • Senior Jamie Trowbridge had a team-high three goals, to go along with two ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers

  • Senior  Emma Lange recorded two goals, one assist, three ground balls, four draw controls and two caused turnovers

  • Senior Melissa Newman added one goal and two assists 

  • Senior Amanda Gennardo tallied two goals, four draw controls and one caused turnover

  • Freshman Gianna D'Arienzo, sophomore Courtney Donato and junior Emily O'Mara each secured one goal

  • Kerry Carr of the Valiants matched a game-high four goals while amassing three assists, one ground ball three draw controls, and three caused turnovers

  • Maura Kelly of Manhattanville accumulated four goals, three ground balls, four draw controls, and three caused turnovers

  • The Valiants' Pietra Cabral added three goals 

How it happened:
  • The first quarter saw the Valiants open the game up strong by scoring the first four goals, as they held SJLI to nothing taking a 4-0 lead into the second quarter

  • Manhattanville's Carr scored early in the second quarter on a free-position attempt, this prompted the Golden Eagles to score three unanswered goals cutting the lead to just two

  • As the rest of the first half played on it was full of back-and-forth action between the two teams with Manhattanville out scoring St. Joseph's 3-2 in the final eight minutes in the first half, taking an 8-5 lead

  • A Trowbridge goal early in the second half again cut the lead to just two as the Valiants' responded with a 3-0 scoring run

  • Two goals from the Golden Eagles in the final 40 seconds of action courtesy of Trowbridge and Gennardo brought the score 12-9 entering the final quarter of action

  • Newman found the back of the net early on in the fourth quarter but again Manhattanville responded by going on a 3-0 scoring run 

  • A late goal from Lange cut the lead to just four but it was too late as the Valints secured the victory 

Notes:
  • The Golden Eagles scooped up a total of 21 ground balls compared to Manhattanville collecting 18

  • The Valiants were a steady 22-28 on clears while SJLI was 17-23

  • Both teams were even at 15 draw controls each

  • St. Joseph's recorded 34 totals shots with Manhattanville totaling 29
