Women's Lacrosse Edges CMSV in OT Thriller

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's lacrosse team edges the College of Mount Saint Vincent with a come-from-behind 16-16 victory in overtime.

Top performers:
  • Junior Emily O'Mara matched a team-high four goals and two assists while collecting five ground balls, six draw controls and one caused turnover

  • Senior Jamie Trowbridge also matched a team-high four goals and two assists, all while adding one ground ball, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers

  • Junior Kayleigh Mimnaugh recorded three goals, two ground balls and one caused turnover 

  • Senior Amanda Genarrdo provided two goals, three ground balls, two draw controls, and three caused turnovers

  • Freshman Gianna D'Arenzio contributed two goals and one groundball

  • Alicia Rodriguez totaled a game-high nine goals, six ground balls, 10 draw controls, and tallied one ground ball 

  • Ashley Teal secured three goals, two assists, two ground balls, two draw controls, and one ground ball

How it happened:
  • The game opened up with the Dolphins' offense finding a flow early as they scored the first two goals of the game and built a 5-1 lead with one minute left in the first quarter

  • An O'Mara goal would cut the lead to just three for Mt. St. Vincent as they outscore St. Joseph's in the opening frame 5-2

  • St. Joseph's responded in the second quarter as they outscored the Dolphins 6-2 in the quarter, with five different Golden Eagles recording a goal in the quarter

  • D'Arenzio opened the second half scoring with a goal two minutes into play, but CMSV would respond with a goal two minutes later to keep the game within one

  • The Golden Eagles looked to build on their lead as Trowbridge scored with 38 seconds left in the third but a Rodriguez goal with time expiring cut the lead to two, 12-10

  • In the final quarter of action, SJLI looked to close out the game as D'Arienzo and Mimnuagh scored in the opening minutes of the quarter bringing the lead to four 

  • The Dolphins refused to go away as Rodriguez scored the final five goals for Mt. St. Vincent, while scoring three goals in the final minute of action, tying the game at 15 with eight seconds left 

  • As the game headed to overtime, both teams battled until a late goal from O'Mara propelled the Golden Eagles ahead securing the 16-15 victory

Notes:
  • St. Joseph's collected 21 ground balls while Mt. St. Vincent scooped up 20

  • SJLI was successful on 16 draw controls as CMSV totaled 19

  • Both teams were an efficient 6-7 on clear attempts 

  • The Golden Eagles tallied 36 shots with the Dolphins recording 27
