Women's Lacrosse Picks Up Third Skyline Conference Victory

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's lacrosse secures their third Skyline Conference victory of the season with a 14-11 win on Saturday afternoon.

Top performers:
  • Junior Emily O'Mara led the Golden Eagles with four goals and two assists, while also contributing three ground balls and two draw controls 

  • Senior Jamie Trowbridge helped guided St. Joseph's with three goals and five ground balls, three draw controls, and four caused turnovers

  • Senior Amanda Genardo and junior Kayleigh Mimnaugh each added two goals with Genardo totaling four ground balls, one draw control and two caused turnovers

  • Senior Emma Lange provided one goal, one assist, four ground balls, and two draw controls 

  • Victoria Ward led the Knights with five goals and six draw controls 

  • Karli Ferrucci added two goals, two assists, and a game-high nine draw controls 

How it happened:
  • St. Joseph's found the back of the net early on with Trowbridge scoring 44 seconds into the game, the Knights would respond with two goals of their own but SJLI would take the opening quarter 3-2

  • In the second quarter, two goals for the Golden Eagles provided them with a 5-2 advantage with Trowbridge and Genardo scoring one apiece 

  • MSMC would respond as Victoria Ward scored three unanswered goals in the final three minutes tying the game at five at the end of the half 

  • The second half started with SJLI scoring three goals courtesy of Lange and O'Mara, Mt. St. Mary would respond with two of their own coming from Ferrucci  

  • The final frame started with a two-goal lead in favor of St. Joseph's as a goal early from the Knight's Shannon Mcgowan cut the lead to just one

  • Both teams would trade goals throughout the quarter when a goal from Ward of the Knights cut the lead to just one until Genardo and O'Mara put the last two goals away securing the win

Notes:
  • St. Joseph's scooped up 25 ground balls compared to Mt. St. Mary collecting 16

  • SJLI was a steady 20-23 on clears with MSMC going 16-18

  • The Knights outpaced the Golden Eagles 18-10 on draw controls
