Women's Lacrosse Topples Maritime in Overtime Thriller

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's lacrosse team topples Maritime College for their first Skyline Conference season loss in the regular-season finale.

Top performers:
  • Junior Kayleigh Mimnaugh recorded a game-high four goals, to go along with one assist and one ground ball

  • Junior Brooke Zecchini totaled three goals for the Golden Eagles 

  • Junior Emily O'Mara added two goals and one draw control 

  • Senior Jamie Trowbridge tallied one goal, two assists, one ground ball, one draw control and one caused turnover 

  • Freshman Maggie Harding accumulated 13 saves and five ground balls

  • Jenna Lesiewicz led the Privateers with three goals, one assist, four ground balls, five draw controls and three caused turnovers

  • Emily Commodore of Martitme amassed two goals and one assist 

How it happened:
  • The game opened with Martitme finding their flow on offense as they would score the first four goals of the game with two coming from Lesiewicz in the first seven minutes of action

  • The Golden Eagles responded with back-to-back goals cutting the lead to just two, but the Privateers would bounce back scoring two of their own before a Zecchini goal with nine seconds left in the first quarter cut the lead, to 6-3

  • An early goal from Gabrielle Nicolosi of Maritime built the lead some more until SJLI responded going on a 3-0 in the final nine minutes of the first half, going into halftime Maritime held a 7-6 advantage

  • In the third quarter St. Joseph's outscored Maritime 2-1 with Mimnaugh and Trowbridge finding the back of the net, as the game remained tied at eight for th start of the final frame

  • In a back-and-forth game, it was the Privateers to break the tie early as Kiera Ford scored with 10 minutes to go in the game 

  • Six minutes of action would go by with neither team backing down, as the Golden Eagles would take advantage of a man-up opportunity with O'Mara scoring to tie the game at nine

  • A free position shot from Mimnaugh at the 1:56 mark pulled SJLI ahead by one, until a goal from Commodore 20 seconds later tied the game again, leading the game to overtime

  • The Golden Eagles would take advantage of a foul from the Privateers as Mimnaugh was put in a free position opportunity that the junior capitalized on to give St. Joseph's the 11-10 victory

Notes:
  • St. Joseph's collected 15 ground balls compared to Maritime who scooped up 21

  • SJLI was 25-35 on clears while Maritime was a steady 20-22 

  • The Privateers held a 16-9 draw control edge
