Women's Lacrosse Opens Conference Play With Loss

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) was stopped by Farmingdale State College in a 17-5 loss on Saturday afternoon.

Top performers:
  • Senior Jamie Trowbridge matched a team-high one goal and led the team with two assists all while recording 10 draw controls and one caused turnover

  • Senior Emma Lange added one goal, matched a team-high four groundballs, and caused one turnover 

  • Senior Amanda Gennardo contributed one goal, one groundball and one draw control

  • Ashley Codispoti led the Rams with four goals, three ground balls, one draw control and one caused turnover

  • Molly Espey and Athena Vogiatzis of Farmingdale each totaled three goals and one assist on the day

How it happened:
  • St. Joseph's opened the scoring column five minutes into action with Brooke Zecchini taking advantage of a man-up opportunity for SJLI

  • A goal from Megan Diamond of Farmingdale would tie the game up at one apiece as the Rams would outscore the Golden Eagles 4-2 in the quarter 

  • Gennardo would cut the lead to three with a goal 40 seconds into the second quarter until the Rams would score three unanswered goals

  • The second half would begin with Farmingdale up by four goals, as the Rams proceeded to sore the only four goals of the third quarter, taking a 12-4 lead heading into the final quarter

  • Farmingdale State would go on to score another five straight goals in the fourth quarter but a late goal from Kayleigh Mimnaugh would halt the Rams' 10-0 scoring run 

Notes:
  • The Golden Eagles collected a total of 15 groundballs compared to the Rams scooping up 19

  • St. Joseph's was 14-16 on clear attempts while Farmingdale went 21-22

  • SJLI tallied 14 draw controls and FSC had 10

  • The Rams outshot the Golden Eagles 32-24
