Iavarone and Vazquez Earn MBWA Honorable Mention Nods

New York, NY| Junior Andrea Iavarone earned her third weekly honor in two days and senior Fernando Vazquez his second when the duo was included in the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Divisions II-III Honorable Mention lists for women's and men's basketball, respectively.

On Monday, Iavarone earned the program's first-ever D3Hoops.com Team of the Week selection and her third Skyline Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week nod while Vazquez appeared on the Skyline Men's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season.

In three games last week Iavarone averaged 25.3 points and 10.7 rebounds-per-game as the Golden Eagles posted a 1-2 record. Last Monday the Miller Place, NY native shot 50% from the field and finished with a team-high 15 points in a loss to Trinity College on the road. In Wednesday's 86-63 win over Skyline Conference rival SUNY Purchase, the forward scored a career-best 39 points—on a program best 19-24 shooting from the floor—and set a new the program record for points in a single-game. Iavarone also collected 13 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season. Iavarone would continue her scoring streak in Saturday's loss to The Sage Colleges, shooting 75% from the field en route to collecting a game-high 22 points. Before play on Monday Iavarone ranked 6th in the nation in double-doubles, 10th in offensive rebounds-per-game (6.0), 12th in rebounds-per-game (12.9) and led the conference in scoring (20.5 PPG).

During a 2-0 week for Vazquez and the men's basketball team, the senior averaged 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds-per-game. In an 84-77 victory over St. Joseph's College (Brkln) on Wednesday the San Juan, Puerto Rico native shot 5-7 from three and tallied a game-best 24 points. On Saturday vs. the College of Mount St. Vincent, Vazquez collected 11 points and dished out the 100th assist of his career as the Golden Eagles stormed to a 72-59 win. Vazquez currently leads the Golden Eagles in scoring (17.0 PPG) and ranks fifth in the Skyline Conference.
