Golden Eagles Keep Rolling Through the Skyline with Win over Old Westbury

All Five Starters Reach Double-Figures in Balanced Attack

Patchogue, N.Y. – St. Joseph's College men's basketball team (13-2, 9-0 SKY) defeated the Old Westbury Panthers (8-7, 5-3 SKY), 88-85, in a key Skyline Conference game Thursday evening at the Danzi Athletic Center. The Golden Eagles five starters all reached double figures in scoring, led by senior guard Olivier Laurent (Amityville, NY/St. Anthony's) with 19 points.  The win solidified SJC's first place standing as they are the lone unbeaten team remaining in the Skyline.

The game was a back-and forth affair as the lead changed nine times until the Eagles pulled ahead for good with just under ten minutes remaining in the game.  Senior forward Vincent Russo (Sayville, NY/Sayville) scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half, including a three ball immediately at the start of the second half to erase Old Westbury's 46-44 halftime lead.

The Eagles balanced attack included 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists from senior guard Trey Black (Bayport, NY/Bayport-Blue Point), 17 points from senior guard Chris Jimenez (Huntington Station, NY/St. Anthony's) and 15 from senior forward Steve Velasquez (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge).

For the Panthers, reigning ECAC Metro and Skyline Player of the Week, Tavon McNair had game-highs of 30 points and 14 rebounds.  Also reaching double figures for Old Westbury were Everard Bisnauth (16), Rashawn McCarthy (15) and Kerel Mitchell (14).

St. Joseph's will return to the floor this Saturday up in Newburgh, NY as they travel upstate to take on Skyline-rival Mount Saint Mary (12-4, 7-2 SKY) at 5:30 pm.
