Old Westbury, NY|The St. Joseph's College baseball team suffered a Skyline Conference sweep at the hands of SUNY Old Westbury Saturday afternoon. The Panthers came back to take game one 15-6 before hanging on for a 9-8 win in game two.
The Golden Eagles slide to 12-11 on the season, 7-3 Skyline. The Panthers improve to 12-12-1 overall, 5-5 Skyline.
SJCLI 6, OW 15
The Golden Eagles held a 6-2 lead going into the bottom of the fifth where the Panthers put up four runs to cut the deficit to two, 6-4.
The Golden Eagles had two runners on in the top of the sixth, but Daniel Campanelli grounded into a double play to end the threat. Old Westbury sent 11 Panthers in the bottom of the half of the sixth capped by a two-RBI double by >> Russo putting the home team ahead 12-6.
OW added a pair of runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to claim the 15-6 win.
Tyler Sanderson and Tyler Crafa finished with three hits apiece and combined for four RBI's.
Anthony Caminiti suffered the loss allowing four runs on two hits out of the bullpen. Joseph Murphy started the game giving up six runs on 11 hits with seven strikeouts.
OW's Matt Bohenek picked up the win in relief for Vinny Negri who went 3.2 innings surrendering five runs on four hits while fanning three.
SJCLI 8, OW 9
SJC held a 3-0 lead after Dylan Piscitelli's three-run home run sailed over the right-field fence in the top of the first. The Golden Eagles added to their lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second before a three-run bottom of the third put the Panthers within two, 5-3.
Louis Fontinha led off the top of the fourth with a walk and came into score on an RBI triple by Paul Britt. Piscitelli followed with a single through the right side bringing in Britt and moving the score to 7-3.
The Panthers went on to put up a three-spot in the bottom of the fourth and fifth to go ahead 9-7.
The Golden Eagles got a run back in the top of the seventh but were held to just that and the Panthers came away with the 9-8 win.
Anthony Raucci and Piscitelli finished with two hits apiece.
The Golden Eagles return to action when they travel to Farmingdale State on Sunday, April 15. Game time is set for 12:00 pm.
