Baseball Earns Doubleheader Sweep of Mt. St. Vincent, 13-7, 10-1

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College baseball team earned its second doubleheader sweep of the weekend with a pair of wins over the College of St. Vincent Sunday afternoon at Gregg Alfano Field.

The Golden Eagles improve to 18-14 on the season with an 11-5 mark in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphin drop to 8-25 overall, 2-14 Skyline.

SJCLI 13, CMSV 7

After scoring two runs in the bottom of first, the Golden Eagles put up four runs in the bottom of the second for an early 5-0 lead.

The Dolphins got on the board with a run in the top of the third when Matt DiNorcia came into score on a fielder's choice.

SJC responded quickly adding four runs in the bottom half of the third. Tyler Crafa started the inning with a double to left and was followed up by a single to center by Tyler Costa. A stolen base put both runners in scoring position to set up Lou Doria for a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Paul Britt singled up the middle scoring Costa and then moved to third on a Dylan Piscitelli double to right. A sacrifice fly and an RBI double by Anthony Raucci moved the score to 10-1.

The Golden Eagles added a run in the bottom of the sixth before the Dolphins batted around in the top of the seventh closing the game to 11-6.

CMSV pushed a run across in the top of the eighth, but the Golden Eagles answered with two in the bottom half of the inning to cruise to a 13-7 win.

Piscitelli led St. Joseph's at the plate going 4-for-4 with two RBI's and three runs scored.

Joseph Murphy moved to 4-1 on the season allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts in six innings.

SJCLI 10, CMSV 1

Leading 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, Raucci and Louis Fontinha started the inning with base hits to center and after a sacrifice bunt moved them into scoring position, Matt Burnett's double down the leftfield line brought them in. SJC loaded the bases for Piscitelli who cleared them with a triple in the left-center gap. An RBI single up the middle from Tyler Sanderson capped the scoring and put the Golden Eagles ahead 7-0.

CMSV got a run in the top of the fifth, but three more runs crossed for SJC in the bottom sixth moving the score to its final 10-1.

Fontinha finished 3-for-3 with 2 RBI's and three runs scored. Burnett and Piscitelli pitched in with two hits apiece.

Anthony Papa earned the win allowing just one run on five hits while fanning eight in a complete game effort.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, April 24 when they travel to take on Baruch. Game time is slated for 4:00 pm.
