Baseball Shuts Out Purchase on Senior Day

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College baseball team shut out Purchase College twice on Senior Day.  SJC took down the Panthers 12-0 in seven innings in game one before completing the sweep with a 9-0 win in game two.

The Golden Eagles improve to 16-14 on the season with a 9-5 Skyline Conference mark. The Panthers slip to 17-15 overall, 9-7 Skyline.

Three straight RBI singles from Tyler Sanderson, Anthony Raucci and Matthew Burnett in the bottom of the first put the Golden Eagles ahead 4-0 in the bottom of the first. Five hits in the bottom of the fourth produced three more runs extending the lead to 7-0.

An RBI sacrifice fly by Burnett in the bottom of the fifth before a four-run sixth inning highlighted by an RBI triple from Raucci and an RBI double from Burnett put the Golden Eagles ahead 12-0.

SJC starter Nick Clemente retired the Panthers in order on the top of the seven to capture his second win of the season.

In a game that featured 18 hits, Sanderson, Raucci, Burnett and Paul Britt all finished with three hits apiece. Burnett added three RBI's and three runs scored with Sanderson adding 2 RBI's and three runs.

The Golden Eagles continued to pour on the offense in the second game jumping to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Britt belted a two-out home run to deep center field before an RBI single from Raucci extended the lead to 3-0. A three-run bottom of the fifth moved the score to 6-0.

Louis Fontinha and Tyler Crafa led off the bottom of the sixth with back-to-back singles. A couple batters later Britt worked a walk to load the bases for pinch hitter Dylan Piscitelli who turned on a pitch down the right-field line for a bases-clearing double moving the score to its final 9-0.

SJC added 13 hits to the day with Lou Doria, Britt, Michael Ferrufino, Raucci and Fontinha all recording two hits each.

Anthony Caminiti earned his fourth win on the season scattering six hits with six Ks. PJ Martino provided two innings of scoreless relief.

The Golden Eagles return to Gregg Alfano Field on Sunday, April 22 when they host the College of Mt. St. Vincent. Game time is set for 12:00 pm.
