Baseball Closes Out Regular Season with Sweep of Yeshiva

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College baseball team closed out the regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Yeshiva University Sunday afternoon at Gregg Alfano Field. The Golden Eagles came out with a 12-0 win in seven innings in game one before a 9-2 win in game two.

SJC improves to 22-14 on the season with a 13-5 Skyline Conference mark. The Maccabee slip to 3-23 overall and 0-18 in Skyline play.

SJCLI 12, YU 0

After being held scoreless through the first two innings, the Golden Eagles broke through in the bottom of the third when an RBI single to right by Lou Doria brought in Tyler Costa who walked earlier in the inning.

The Golden Eagles extended their lead with a four-run bottom of the fourth capped by a three-RBI double to center by Paul Britt moving the score to 5-0.

The home team added to the lead with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth highlighted by a three-run home run over the right-field fence by Doria for a 12-0 advantage.

The Maccabees had runners on in the top of the sixth and the seventh, but Golden Eagles were able to leave them stranded preserving the shutout.

Britt finished 3-for-4 with three RBI's and a run scored. Doria went 2-for-3 with five RBI's and two runs scored.

Four SJC pitchers combined for the shutout with Anthony Papa earning the win with two innings of scoreless relief without allowing a hit while fanning four.

SJCLI 9, YU 2

An RBI single up the middle by Michael Catanzaro scored Louis Fontinha who led off the inning with a bunt base hit giving the Golden Eagles an early 1-0 lead.

Six straight SJC hits opened the bottom of the third producing three runs pushing the lead to 4-0 after three.

The Maccabees got on the board with two runs in the top of the fourth. A single from Shmuli Goldis started the inning and he came into score on an RBI triple to right by Aryeh Salovey who then came in to score on a wild pitch to cut the deficit in half, 4-2.

The Golden Eagles pushed three runs across in the bottom of the fourth and single runs in the fifth and sixth to move the score to its final 9-2.

Jesse Nakashian was 3-for-4 on the day with two RBI's and a run scored. Michael Ferrufino and Gerhig Montoro finished with two hits apiece.

Thomas Crispyn was credited with the win out of the bullpen allowing just one hit in 1.2 innings of work.

The Golden Eagles clinch a spot in Skyline Championship Tournament taking place next weekend. Game times and seedings will be released early next week.
