Panthers Pounce Early to Beat Eagles in Skyline Action

Old Westbury, N.Y.—The Old Westbury Panthers (6-15, 4-6) came onto the court with something to prove on Wednesday night, defeating the Golden Eagles (2-18, 2-8), 77-54, after having lost to them earlier this season.

The Eagles struggled from the starting tip-off as they couldn't seem to get any points on the board until nearly four minutes into the game. After coming close but never officially taking the lead in the first half, the Eagles went into the locker room at halftime at a 42-28 deficit.

St. Joseph's stayed afloat in the second half by sinking three-pointers and forcing Panther turnovers but their first half shortfall and second half fatigue allowed the home team to run away with the win.

Laura Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y./ Smithtown East) led the offense with 15 points and nine rebounds while Danielle Hamlin (Centereach, N.Y./ Centereach) contributed with 12 points and ten rebounds.  Katie McGarrel (Selden, N.Y./ Newfield) was fierce on the boards with 12 rebounds in addition to her three points.

The Eagles will face Mt. St. Vincent in a Skyline Conference road game on Saturday, February 15 at 1 p.m.
