Grand Finale for Lady Eagles with Trouncing of Medgar Evers

Brooklyn, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's Golden Eagles' (4-21) four seniors, playing in the last game of their collegiate careers, gave it their all on Saturday and had their best game of the season as a whole in an 88-55 trouncing of the Medgar Evans Cougars (2-23).

The four seniors, Danielle Hamlin (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach), Laura Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East), Christina Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East), and Colleen Fitzsimons (Commack, N.Y./Commack) combined for 75 points, a total that the entire Eagles team had only hit twice this year. The 88 points for the Lady Eagles was the highest total this season for them.

The Eagles got off to a hot start offensively as Christina Cohen hit three-pointers on her first two shot attempts and Laura Cohen drilled a three on her first shot of the night putting the Eagles up 13-4 early on but the Cougars came battling back cutting the deficit down to four. The seniors weren't going to let the Cougars spoil their going away party as the Cohen sisters and Hamlin hit threes on back-to-back-to-back possessions. The Eagles closed out the half with an eight-point lead.

The Cougars were no match for the Eagles in the second half as they were outscored 45-20. The Lady Eagles shot 46% from the field in the half and Laura Cohen scored 17 points. The Eagles largest lead came in the last minute of the game when Laura Cohen hit a layup putting them up 33.

Laura Cohen had a monster stat line with 27 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, four steals and two blocks, while Christina Cohen finished with 23 points, five rebounds and five assists. Fellow senior Hamlin had 20 points and 16 boards and Fitzsimons closed out her career with five points, five rebounds, and two blocks.
