Women's Lacrosse Picks Up First Win in 17-1 Decision Over Husson

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's lacrosse team earned its first win of the season in a 17-1 decision over Husson College Saturday afternoon at Danzi Stadium.

The Golden Eagles owned a 12-8 advantage in draw controls while holding a 33-6 shot advantage through sixty minutes of play. St. Joseph's College picked up 14 groundballs to Husson's seven, while the Golden Eagles forced 19 Eagle turnovers.

In a game where nine Golden Eagles found the back of the net, leading the way with an eight-point effort on four goals and four assists was junior Nicole Stopelli. Sophomore Diana Johnston pitched in with four goals and two assists and a game-high seven draw controls. Lauryn Gregson and Kristi Carroll provided two goals apiece.

After building an 11-0 lead in the first half, senior Chelsea Tarazona started the scoring in the second frame by scooping a ground ball in the SJC defensive end and running the length of the field for her first goal of the season. SJC goals from D. Johnston, Alexis Hillman, and Taylor Ferrito followed before Husson's Maddy Olsen broke up the shutout, 15-1, with just over eight minutes left on the clock. Carroll and Gregson closed out the game with back-to-back goals moving the score to its final 17-1.

Goalkeeper Lindsay Ramos earned her first win of the season with four saves on the day. Her counterpart Mallory Burchill finished with 10 saves.

The Golden Eagles return to action when they travel to Hartwick College on Saturday, March 17 at 4:00 pm.
