Women’s Lacrosse Edged by Hartwick, 16-13

Oneonta, NY| Despite a late-game surge, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-13 decision to non-conference opponent Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY on Saturday afternoon.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 1-3 on the year as the Hawks improve to 2-1.

Senior Kristin Carroll led all players with five goals on 12 shots in the contest. Junior Nicole Stoppelli went for three goals and four assists for a game-best seven points.

In goal, junior Lindsay Ramos made seven saves on 23 shots.

Despite scoring the game's first goal, 32 seconds into the contest, SJC entered the break trailing 9-7.

Sophomore Diana Johnston's tally 18 seconds into the second cut the deficit to one (9-8), but five consecutive goals from the hosts put them up six goals (14-8).

SJC tallied four goals inside the final six minutes of the contest, but in the end it was a three-goal defeat (16-13) for the Golden Eagles.

In light of the defeat, SJC outshot Hartwick 43-28.The guests also held a 20-11 advantage on draw controls.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, March 20 when they host Manhattanville College for a non-conference contest at 5:30 pm.
