Women's Lacrosse topped by Stockton, 18-13

Galloway, NJ| The St. Joseph's College women's lacrosse team suffered an 18-13 non-conference loss to Stockton University Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles slip to 2-4 on the season with the Osprey improving to 6-3.

Trailing 3-0 five minutes into the first half, sophomore Diana Johnston got the Golden Eagles on the board with back-to-back goals, 3-2. The Osprey responded with three unanswered before junior Nicole Stoppelli found the back of the net with just over 19 minutes left in the half. Stockton pushed their lead to seven, 10-3, over the next 16 minutes until the Golden Eagles closed out the frame with goals from Stoppelli and Ally Johnston to go into the break trailing 10-5.

After surrendering three quick goals to open the second half, the Golden Eagles went on an 8-2 run capped by a goal from Lauryn Gregson with just under eight minutes to play put SJC within two, 15-13. But the Osprey tacked on three more down the stretch to secure the 18-13 win.

Both Johnston sisters and Stoppelli recorded hat tricks with Stoppelli adding four assists and five draw controls. Diana Johnston recorded a game-high 10 draw controls.

Stockton's Tamara Torales and Gaby Ojeda both finished with a game-high four goals.

As a team, the Osprey outshot the Golden Eagles 37-28 and held an 18-10 edge in ground balls with SJC holding a slight 17-15 draw control advantage.

SJC's Lindsay Ramos finished with eight saves on the day with Stockton's starting goalie turning away six shots.

The Golden Eagles return to action when they travel to face FDU-Florham on Thursday, April 5. Game time is slated for 4:00 pm.
