Women's Lacrosse Doubles Up on Maritime in Skyline Opener

Throggs Neck, NY| Sophomore Lauryn Gregson found the back of the net six times in an 18-9 Skyline Conference win over SUNY Maritime Saturday afternoon at Reinhart Field.

The Golden Eagles open Skyline play at 1-0, 3-5 overall. The Privateers move to 2-6 on the season and 0-3 in conference action.

Senior Ally Johnston tallied five goals, three groundballs and an assist. Senior Kristin Carroll finished with two goals, three assists, two groundballs and three draw controls. Junior Nicole Stoppelli filled the stat sheet with three goals, three assists, eight groundballs and eight caused turnovers.

Trailing 3-1, Maritime's Catherine Pfundstein put away back-to-back goals to even the score at three midway through the first half. SJC's Gregson broke the stalemate with her second goal of the day with just over eight minutes left in the half. Carroll put the Golden Eagles up by two, 5-3, with a free position goal before each side exchanged goals in the closing minutes to end the half with SJC leading 6-4.

Maritime scored first in the second frame with a quick goal off the opening draw. Three straight SJC goals followed and after a Privateer man-up goal, scores from Johnston and Gregson had the Golden Eagles up 11-6. SJC went on to outscore Maritime 7-3 over the second portion of the half for the 18-9 win.

The Golden Eagles outshot the Privateers 39-19 with a 26-18 edge in groundballs. Maritime held a 16-13 draw control advantage.

Junior goalkeeper Lindsay Ramos finished with seven saves and her counterpart Shannon Brady recorded 13.

The Golden Eagles return to Skyline Conference play Tuesday, April 10 when they host Purchase College. Game time is slated for 5:30 pm.
