Women's Lacrosse Tripped Up by FDU-Florham, 15-8

Madison, NJ| The St. Joseph's College women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-8 decision to FDU-Florham Thursday afternoon at Robert Shields Field.

The Golden Eagles slip to 2-5 on the season with the Devils improving to 5-4.

FDU-Florham jumped to an early 3-0 lead before junior Nicole Stoppelli put the Golden Eagles on the board with an unassisted goal with just over 24 minutes on the clock. SJC could only muster one more goal off the stick of senior Kristin Carroll in the half with the Devils ballooning its lead to 12-2 heading into the break.

SJC's Lauryn Gregson opened the scoring in the second frame, but FDU-Florham tacked on three unanswered goals pushing to its largest lead of the day, 15-3.  The Golden Eagles ended the game on a 5-0 run with a pair of goals from Stoppelli, sophomore Diana Johnston and one from Carroll, but could not catch the Devils ultimately falling 15-8.

Stoppelli led the way for the Golden Eagles with three goals and two assists. The junior also recorded three groundballs, three caused turnovers, and two draw controls. Johnston tallied two goals with seven draw controls. Rounding out the top scorers was Carroll with two goals and two draw controls.

Junior goalkeeper Lindsay Ramos finished with five saves.

The Golden Eagles open up Skyline Conference play when they travel to SUNY Maritime on Saturday, April 7. Game time is slated for 12:00 pm.
