Stoppelli Breaks Single-Season Points Record in Women's Lax's Skyline Final Defeat

Kings Point, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's lacrosse team saw its season end in the Skyline Championship final game on Saturday with a 13-10 loss to the top-seeded United States Merchant Marine Academy.

The Golden Eagles close out the season at 8-9 and the Mariners now sit at 14-2.

Junior Nicole Stoppelli broke the program's single-season points record with four-point performance on three goals and an assist for 82 total points on the season. She jumps over Lisa Terry who set the record with 79 points in 2012.

Senior Kristin Carroll finished with three goals and an assist with senior Melanie Cervone, sophomore Alexis Hillman, senior Maygan Forssell and senior Ally Johnston all recording a goal apiece.

With the game knotted at three with under 19 minutes left in the first half, the Mariners began to pull away with three unanswered goals in a 10 minute stretch. A free position goal from Stoppelli put the Golden Eagles within two, 6-4, but USMMA got back-to-back goals from Meredith Willard to close out the half leading 8-4.

USMMA led by five, 11-6, about midway through the second frame before Stoppelli and Carroll capitalized on free position opportunities cutting the deficit to 11-8. The Mariners managed to keep the Golden Eagles at arm's length for the remainder of the half to claim the 13-10 win.

Goalkeeper Lindsay Ramos finished with seven saves with her counterpart Hannah Gizzi recording eight.
