Men’s Basketball Drops Skyline Opener to #2 Yeshiva

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team was defeated 82-58 by #2 Yeshiva University in its Skyline Conference opener inside the Danzi Center on Sunday afternoon.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 0-3 overall on the year and 0-1 in conference play as the Maccabees win their NCAA-best 40th-straight game and improve to 4-0 and 1-0.

Spencer Malloy led SJC in scoring with 18 points on 8-for-14 shooting from the field. The center also pitched in with six rebounds and three steals.

Anthony Ferrufino recorded the first double-double of his career with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Jake Gaudiello shot 4-for-6 from the field and scored 10 points. 

Yeshiva was paced by Preseason All-American Ryan Turell, who shot 9-for-21 and tallied a game-best 26 points. Ofek Reef provided 18 points, and Gabriel Leifer went for nine points and a game-high seven assists.

The Golden Eagles held their own in the first half against the second-highest ranked team in the nation. At 10:16 the hosts went ahead 16-13 and later led 28-27 before going into halftime down six points (39-33).

Yeshiva came out of the break hot, scoring 25 of the half's first 29 points to take a 64-35 midway through the second half. SJC could not make up the deficit and succumbed to an 82-58 defeat.

St. Joseph's shot 44.4% from the field but was outpaced by Yeshiva, who shot an even 50.0%. SJC dominated the boards (36-27) but turned the ball over 24 times.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, November 17, when they visit St. Elizabeth for a non-conference contest at 7:00 pm.
