Men’s Basketball Scores 4 in Double Digits for First Win

Morristown, NJ| Four Golden Eagles scored in double digits as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team toppled St. Elizabeth, 61-54, for its first win of the season on Wednesday evening.

SJC, now 1-3 on the year, was paced by Timothy Hirdt and Jake Gaudiello, who scored 13 points each. Hirdt also pulled down a game-best 12 boards for his first-career double-double. 

Gordon Shouler shot 3-for-5 with 12 points and three assists, and Spencer Malloy went for his second double-double of the year with an 11-point, 10-rebound performance.

St. Elizabeth's Jarek Johnson led all scorers with 19 points on 9-for-20 shooting from the field.

In a contest that featured five ties and two lead changes, SJC carried most of the play. After pulling ahead 20-18 with 6:14 remaining in the first half, the Golden Eagles tallied 15 of the half's final 15 points and took a 35-28 lead into the break.

The Eagles brought the match level with 7:04 to go in regulation (46-46), but a quick 6-0 run put SJC back ahead (52-46) and on track for a 61-54 win.

St. Joseph's shot 44.6% from the field and limited the Eagles to a 31.8% shooting percentage. SJC also held advantages in total rebounds (48-33) and offensive rebounds (10-8).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, November 23, when they host Hunter College for a non-conference contest inside the Danzi Center at 7:30 pm.
