Men’s Basketball Holds Off Sarah Lawrence

Bronxville, NY| Four Golden Eagles scored in double-digits in the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team's 78-64 victory at Sarah Lawrence College on Wednesday evening.

The win moves SJC to 7-7 overall on the year and 3-4 in Skyline Conference play as the Gryphons drop to 3-8 and 1-3.

The St. Joseph's offense was powered by freshman Alec Tabada, who scored a team-high 22 points on 9-for-14 shooting from the field. The forward also contributed eight rebounds and four steals.

Sophomore Spencer Malloy went for 14 points and a team-best 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. Senior Matthew Hirdt (4-for-8 3FG) and sophomore Timothy Hirdt (5-for-11 FG) scored 12 points each.

Sarah Lawrence was paced by Justin Bailey, who posted game-best totals for points (29) and rebounds (13).

Tight through the first half, SJC rallied for 21 of the opening frame's final 33 points and took an eight-point lead (39-31) into the break.

The guests went on to lead by as many as 21 points in the second en route to a 14-point victory. 

St. Joseph's shot 47.7% from the field while limiting the Gryphons to a 39.4% shooting percentage. SJC also held advantages in total rebounds (41-38), bench points (18-4), and points off turnovers (15-10). 

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, January 22, when they host Mount St. Mary for a Skyline Conference contest inside the Danzi Center at 1:00 pm.
