Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's soccer team (0-1) suffered a 4-0 loss at the hands of New York University (1-0) in what was the sides' first match of the 2017 season on Friday afternoon at Gaelic Stadium.

The Violets controlled possession from the start and tallied two shots before an Alex Benedict goal registered the game's opening goal at the seven-minute mark. NYU continued to control the pace for the next 30 minutes and doubled its lead when Julia Raith rifled a shot 35 yards out to the far post.

Outshot 13-1 in the first half, the Golden Eagles entered halftime down 2-0, but failed to turn the tide in the second half. NYU's lead increase once more when Sophia Foster-Palmer curled the ball from the corner into the back of the net in the 52nd minute. Amy Elgin would notch the game's last tally when she deposited a short pass from Olivia Braender-Carr for a breakaway goal to ensure the 4-0 victory for the hosts.

SJC Keeper Juliana Cintron-Leonardo finished with seven saves in a match that saw her side out-shot 28-1. Despite being out-possessed and out-shot, the Golden Eagle backline did well to keep enemy attackers to the outside and turn chances away.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, September 6 when they welcome Rutgers-Newark to Danzi Stadium at 7:00 PM. Live stats will be available here.
