Women's Soccer Holds Off Old Westbury In Conference Showdown

Written by Joshua Soto (SJC-LI Sports Information)

Patchogue, NY| Behind a three-point day from freshman Carly Credidio the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's soccer team defeated SUNY Old Westbury, 2-1, in a Skyline Conference showdown on Tuesday evening at Danzi Stadium. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 5-4 (3-0 Skyline) on the year as the Panthers slide to 2-9 (1-3 Skyline).

SJC opened the scoring in the second minute, when Carly Credidio played a through ball from 40-yards out which found the foot of Christina Gagliardi for the left-footed, one-touch finish to take the 1-0 lead.

After a quiet couple of minutes, Old Westbury evened up the score in the 12th minute when Ashley Onofre delivered a pass to Nicole Jones, and was able to strike it home after a defensive miscue by the Golden Eagles.
Continuing to pressure OW's defense, Mackenzie Nyitray lobbed a pass over the streaking Credidio and the freshman midfielder was able to slot the ball to the lower left corner for her fourth goal of the season.

Despite outshooting the visitors 16-3 in the first half, the Golden Eagles carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Old Westbury would generate five shots to SJC's 10 in the second half, forcing St. Joseph's keeper Juliana Cintron-Leonardo into making five saves in the frame. In the end, the Panthers could not find an equalizer as the Golden Eagles won their third-straight game.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, October 5 when they host York College for a 7:00 PM non-conference showdown. Live video and stats will be available here.
