Patchogue, NY| Sophomore Christina Gagliardi bagged the game-winner as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's soccer team defeated Sarah Lawrence, 2-1, in a Skyline Conference showdown at Danzi Stadium on Wednesday evening.

With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 8-5 on the year and 4-1 in Skyline play as the Gryphons slide to 4-7-1 (3-4).

SJC carried the play early and generated the game's first four shots before Gagliardi struck in the 12th minute. Freshman Carly Credidio slotted a pass into the box from the right wing for a waiting Gagliardi, who redirected the ball past Sarah Lawrence keeper Madison Mertsch.

After taking a 1-0 lead into the break the Golden Eagles continued to apply pressure and broke through in the 47th minute when Jessica Passabile sent a through ball to Credidio, who slotted home her eight goal of the season.

The Gryphons cut their deficit in half (2-1) in the 84th minute when a blocked shot by Sydney Crain was redirected to the feet of Rachell Mosquera who banged it home, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles took the 2-1 win.

SJC generated 18 shots to Sarah Lawrence's five in the match and edged out the Gryphons in corners, 4-3. Keeper Karissa Rutigliano was credited with one save, while Mertsch made five on the night.

In the most highly anticipated matchup of the year, the Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, October 14 when they travel to take on Skyline Conference rival Farmingdale State for a 12:00 PM Skyline Conference tilt. Live video and stats will be available here.
