Iavarone Named Skyline Co-Player of the Week

New York, NY| The Skyline Conference released its weekly awards on Monday afternoon, and amongst the winners was junior Andrea Iavarone who was named Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week. Additionally, senior Fernando Vazquez appeared on the Men's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll.

Andrea Iavarone (Jr.) – Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week

Iavarone averaged 22.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in two games last week as the women's basketball team posted a 0-2 record. In Tuesday's 72-66 loss to sister school St. Joseph's (Brkln), the forward collected a career-high 32 points and 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season.  On Saturday the Miller Place, NY native shot 46.2% from the field and finished with a game-high 13 points in a loss to Mount St. Mary. Iavarone is currently third in the nation in double-doubles, second in the conference in scoring (18.2) and third in rebounds-per-game (11.4).

Fernando Vazquez (Sr.) – Men's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll

In a week that saw the men's basketball team post a 1-1 record, Vazquez averaged 23.5 points-per-game. In a victory over defending Skyline champion SUNY Old Westbury on December 1, the guard tallied a game-high 20 points on 7-10 shooting from the field. Vazquez was also top scorer (26 points) in a defeat to Yeshiva on the road on Sunday. The San Juan, Puerto Rico native is currently first on the team and fourth in the conference in scoring (19.8 PPG).
