Full Skyline Release

Written by Andrew Capitell (SJC-LI Sports Information)

New York, NY| A conference-high 78 St. Joseph's College (L.I.) student-athletes were named to the Skyline Conference's 2016-17 Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll, as announced by Commissioner Linda Bruno on Monday morning. Of the 12 member institutions, St. Joseph's ranked first in total honorees, topping second-place Mt. St. Mary College (66).

The Academic Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who earned a 3.3 grade point average while competing in baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's lacrosse, softball, men's and women's swimming, men's tennis and men's volleyball during the winter and/or spring semesters of the 2016-17 academic year. In total, 552 student-athletes were honored throughout the conference.

All nine Skyline-sponsored SJC winter and spring sports programs received selections, with baseball (20) garnering the most. Women's lacrosse (16) collected second most while softball and men's lacrosse (8) ranked third.

"The balance our student-athletes continue to exhibit in the classroom and in competition speaks volumes to their character," said Bruno. "Their exploits reflect the Division III philosophy statement, and these young men and women exemplify what a student-athlete experience should be."
