Cross Country Trio Among Skyline Weekly Winners

New York, NY| The Skyline Conference released its weekly awards on Tuesday afternoon, and amongst the winners were junior Matt Lopez (men's cross country) and senior Caleigh Capek (women's cross country) who were named Runners of the Week.

Additionally, junior Abbey Curcio was dubbed Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, and freshman Gianna Dickson (women's cross country) and sophomore Angela Avecillas Martinez (women's tennis) earned Rookies of the Week accolades.

Matt Lopez (Jr.) – Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Lopez took fourth place at the NJIT Highlander Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The junior turned in an 8k time of 25:23.9, which set new course and program 8k records. He takes home Runner of the Week honors for the third time this season.

Caleigh Capek (Sr.) – Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Powered SJC to a sixth-place finish at the NJIT Highlander Invitational on Saturday. Capek placed 29th with a 5k time of 19:49.3 and earns Runner of the Week accolades for the first time in her career.

Abbey Curcio (Jr.) – Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Curcio led the Golden Eagles in a 2-0 week with seven points on two goals and three assists. The midfielder assisted on the lone goal in a 1-0 win over SUNY Maritime before going for two goals and two assists in an 8-1 win over SUNY Purchase.

Angela Avecillas Martinez (So.) – Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week
Went 2-0 in both singles and doubles action last week as SJC posted a 1-1 overall record. Avecillas Martinez won 8-6 at first doubles and 6-1, 6-1 at fourth singles in a 6-3 win over Mount St. Mary on September 29, and secured 8-1 and 8-2 wins at first doubles and fourth singles, respectively, in a 5-4 loss at Brooklyn on October 2.

Gianna Dickson (Fr.) – Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Dickson placed 39th with a 5k time of 20:13.1 at Saturday's NJIT Highlander Invitational on Saturday. The freshman was SJC's second-best runner and helped power the women to a sixth-place finish.
